How Do You Want to Feel When You Are Writing?

How do you want to feel when you are writing?

I posed this question to my class the other day, and it’s something I’ve been asking myself lately as well.

Getting into the right headspace before starting to work can be quite impactful, and creating “reminders” to help you get that space incredibly helpful.

These are mine:

⭐️ I want to remind myself to STAY IN even when the work feels hard.

⭐️ I want to “find something fascinating” about my characters, in the same way I want to learn more about the interesting people I meet, while I’m writing. (I’m currently in the drafting stage.)

I’ve used sticky notes in this way for a while (especially to meet goals), but I’m doing a bit more to trigger the reminders of how I want to feel as I sit down to write.

Now, when I sit down to write, I light this votive that sits with these posted reminders, and I also have this beautiful piece of art by @faithpray as a visual reminder too.

❓Friends, how do you want to feel? Do you do anything to set yourself up to feel just that when you’re working? Or is this something you’d like to try? I’d love to know. Tell me.
